NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A war of words erupted outside a Free National Movement association meeting, Tuesday, as a group of supporters blasted FNM Deputy Chairman Don Saunders over what seems to be an ongoing war within the party.

Tensions ran high outside the FNM Mt. Moriah association meeting after party’s Deputy Leader Don Saunders addressed reporters.

Following his talk with the media, a group of FNM’s – said to be supporters of former prime minister Dr. Hubert Minnis – didn’t agree with his comments.

Following the meeting, Saunders sought to clarify talks that Dr. Minnis was not allowed to speak at association meetings.

He says that was never the message from the party’s leadership.

In the meeting Dr. Minnis sought to send a message of unity, saying the FNM is one family.

This is the second association meeting in recent weeks where the former prime minister and party leader addressed supporters.

Talks have swirled that Dr. Minnis intends to make a run for party leadership at the next FNM convention.

Saunders did admit the party was discouraging certain speeches.

But his comments seemed to strike a nerve with these FNM supporters.
