NASSAU, BAHAMAS – 1984 was the last time The Bahamas hosted and won the CARIFTA games. Female athletes like Laverne Eve, Monique Miller, and Pauline Davis-Thompson led the charge. Today Davis-Thompson is hopeful we can reclaim our track and field dominance.

When Team Bahamas hosted and won CARIFTA in 1984, Davis-Thompson was awarded the Austin Sealy Trophy for her gold-medal performances in the under-twenty 100 and 200 meters and the four-by-four hundred meter relay.

The Thomas A. Robinson Stadium was a marvel in its prime, but it is a far cry from today’s stadiums.

Although the games will take place in the newer facilities, Davis-Thompson says officials can do more to pull the stadium up to where it should be.

Davis-Thompson is optimistic that the home-field advantage can help us relive our former glory and outrun, jump and throw our competitors when the games start on April 8th.

With just under two weeks until the big dance, Davis-Thompson urges Bahamians to support the team on Easter weekend by filling the stadium and cheering on our athletes as they represent the country.

Team Bahamas is going up against regional powerhouses like Trinidad and Tobago and a Jamaican team that has dominated the regional games for the past 37 years.
