NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Amid what police are calling an increase in sexual assaults, the national security minister is pushing back against critics who say too much focus is being placed on victim blaming.

In a release police advised residents to refrain from exercising alone, to ensure their home is properly secured if they live alone, and that delivery drivers should not make deliveries alone.

Munroe says the advice is to protect Bahamians.

The national security minister believes people who commit these kinds of offenses have a disorder.

On the other hand, Social Services Minister Obie Wilchcombe says more needs to be done to counter the negativity surrounding the issue.
