NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Supreme Court Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson on Tuesday adjourned the Adrian Gibson corruption trial until June 19.

The trial was expected to resume today; however, the Court of Appeal issued a temporary stay of the proceedings on Monday.

The matter won’t be able to proceed until the Superior Court rules on whether Justice Grant-Thompson was right when she ruled that Gibson’s right to a fair trial had not been breached.

Gibson had argued that he would be prejudiced in his defense if the court allowed his former fiancée Alexandria Mackey to testify by videolink from Florida. He also argued that the prosecution had failed to disclose material that could be beneficial to his defense.

The Court of Appeal will hear the matter on June 13.

Gibson is accused of getting $1.1 million in kickbacks from contracts awarded by the Water and Sewerage Corporation while he served as its executive chairman from 2018 through 2021.

Gibson is charged along with his campaign general, Joan Knowles,  Elwood Donaldson, the corporation’s former General manager, Jerome Missick, Peaches Farquharson and his cousin, Rashae Gibson.
