NASSAU, BAHAMAS – National Security Minister Wayne Munroe confirming that police were called to the home of 21-year-old Heavenly Terveus days before her death to investigate a complaint that the suspect had caused damage to a vehicle in the yard. However, he says no official complaint was made at a police station.

While confirming that police responded to a call that the suspect was in front of the victim’s mother’s yard damaging their vehicle, Munroe says that’s as far as it went. The incident sadly taking place just days before she was shot and killed.

The 21-year-old’s family members say in the two weeks of her staying by her mother, Terveus stayed in doors, afraid.

Munroe was asked, if police were already called to the home, why would she then have to leave and go to a police station to make a report?

The Terveus family and neighbors say the young mother’s murder could have been avoided and they wish law enforcement had done more to protect her.

OurNEWS asked the national security minister, “Could police really have done more?”

Terveus’ one-month-old son remains in hospital as he was injured during the ordeal. The suspect now dead as well, after reportedly turning the gun on hmself.

Terveus’ murder was the second incident where a woman lost her life to gun violence in less than a week. Days before, a woman was shot walking in to church for prayer meeting.

Munroe says despite the death penalty being the ultimate punishment for such a crime, people must take personal responsibility.
