BEMU: Some Schools Ready For Full Face-To-Face

As Covid-19 cases continue to decline, one union leader is urging the Ministry of Education to proceed with caution as it moves to resume full face-to-face learning at more public schools. Bahamas Educators Managerial Union president Stephen McPhee says while some schools are ready to resume full face-to-face learning, it’s crystal-clear others are not.

The BEMU president states that the union has some strong recommendations when it comes to full-time face to face learning at all public schools. He says those recommendations center on taking a cautiously measured approach to welcoming kids back to the classroom on a full-time basis.

In late January, schools across The Bahamas resumed hybrid learning that included a mixture of in person and online classes.

Education minister Glenys Hanna-Martin said the government has formed committees within each individual school to examine its needs and move to full face-to-face learning. The committees include teachers, principals, the public service union and education officials, who will make the determination on re-opening for full face-to-face.

McPhee says despite a sharp decline in Covid cases, now is not the time for anyone to let their guard down.
