PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI – In a matter of hours the situation in Haiti deteriorated into yet another violent crisis. It means the Bahamian mission is again in state of heightened security.

Captain Godfrey Rolle, a former defense force officer is the local Chargé d’ affaires in Haiti.

Fortunately, Captain Rolle says most of of the Port-Au-Prince Embassy staff is out of harms way.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming this week that five of the diplomatic staff returned home.

Rolle says from all indications this latest round of violence is being fueled by calls for the resignation Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

Captain Rolle also agrees with the decision to cancel Bahamasair flights into Haiti
for now.

With so much uncertainty still in Haiti, the former military officer now diplomat tells us, in a situation like this, it all comes down to making wise decisions.
