NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The saga continues between government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority; this time government claims the GBPA owes them $300 million for the last five fiscal years.

A local daily reports the port only has thirty days to pay the money.

Now the tumultuous relationship between the two entities has been in this state for some time now.

This as the Davis administration has blamed the port authority for failing to complete its duties as regulated by the Hawksbill Creek Agreement.

The GBPA has responded publicly on multiple occasions saying it is disheartening to hear people say negative comments about the GBPA for things they are not responsible for and he believes some do not understand the GBPA’s role and function.

But it appeared as if the back and forth was dying down as just last week in an exclusive interview with Our News.

The port president while announcing that the gbpa opened a new office in New Providence said he hoped that their presence in the capital would help further their relationship with the government.

Now we reached out to the office of the prime minister on this latest development but our calls were not returned up to news time.

Leader of the Free National Movement and Marco City Member of Parliament Michael Pintard has been very vocal about this ongoing issue. He now says both entities must have to have discussions versus a public row.

The Grand Bahama MP says the prime minister and his colleagues are often not on the same page about the matter with the Grand Bahama.

While he disagrees with the Davis Administration approach he did have this to say.
