NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man fined $8,000 for having almost four pounds of marijuana with intent to supply will have his money returned after winning his appeal.

Kevin Ramsey was exonerated after the Court of Appeal found that the evidence didn’t support his conviction.

On July 27, 2021, police went to Bozine Town in search of drugs. While searching bushes, the officers found a drawstring bag containing four large balls of marijuana that were wrapped in plastic.

Ramsey, a resident of Bozine Town, was convicted after one of his fingerprints was found on the plastic that wrapped one of the packages containing the marijuana.

Police also found 26 other fingerprints on the plastic wrap that were not identified.

The fingerprint examiner could not say when the prints were deposited in the plastic wrap or how long they’d been there.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the magistrate fell into error by concluding that the single fingerprint was conclusive evidence of Ramsey’s guilty, given that the drugs were found in a public place.
