NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As the United States presidential race heats up, a big question for Bahamians remains: the impact a Harris- or Trump-led administration will have on The Bahamas.

Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell believes either way, our position will remain the same.

In fact, foreign offices in the United States were instructed Wednesday morning to provide an assessment of what a change in administration could look like.

Mitchell’s instructions are to focus on three key components: climate change, immigration, and gun policies.

It’s no secret both sides have completely different views on this issue.

The U.S presidential race took a sharp turn in recent weeks when President Joe Biden announced he would leave the race and endorse Harris to be the party’s nominee.

It came after tense calls for him to leave the race after multiple blunders and a presidential debate that’s left many questioning his ability to hold the post.

Kamala Harris became the first Black woman and Asian American to lead a major party ticket. Her campaign raised $81 million in the first 24 hours of the announcement.

Mitchell believes her fast rise should be a positive marker for young politicians everywhere.
