Judge Refuses Accused Murderer’s Guilty Plea

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A judge on Friday refused to accept the guilty plea of a man accused of murder.

Deangelo McKenzie pleaded guilty with an explanation when he was arraigned for the October 10, 2023 death of Laureino Newbold.

When Senior Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson asked McKenzie for his explanation, he allegedly that Newbold attacked him with a knife and he was defending himself.

Since McKenzie’s explanation was that he acted in self-defense, the judge entered a not guilty plea.

The matter has been assigned to Justice Gregory Hilton.

McKenzie is due to appear before him on October 17 for a trial date to be fixed.
