GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Members of the judiciary in Grand Bahama ushered in the 2025 legal year with a solemn yet celebratory march through Freeport on Thursday morning.

The procession concluded at the Pro-cathedral of Christ the King, where the clergy and the legal community reflected on the significance of this annual tradition.

The day began at the Garnet Levarity Justice Centre in Freeport, where members of the judiciary gathered before making their way to the Pro-cathedral of Christ the King.

Canon Norman Lightbourne addressed the congregation, calling the opening of the legal year a “wonderful tradition” he hopes will continue for generations.

Father Lightbourne emphasized the importance of upholding justice and integrity within the legal system, noting that its a huge responsibility.

Canon Lightbourne reminded those in the legal profession that their duty is to ensure the guilty are convicted and punished adding that justice should be blind to color and status.

Canon Lightbourne also underscored the need for more love in the country to stop the ongoing carnage, stressing that the judiciary, as an independent body plays a vital role in maintaining fairness and accountability.
