NASSAU, BAHAMAS – April is recognized as Child Protection Month, and this year’s theme is “No Excuse for Abuse, Stop the Violence.”

A special service was held this week to kick off the observation. Several schools from across the island are taking part in the event, including Family Island schools participating virtually.

This year’s patron and wife of the Prime Minister, Ann Marie Davis, emphasized children’s right to be protected and free from abuse.

She encouraged the students to speak out if they are a victime of abuse or know someone who is being abused.

Minister of Social Services, Obie Wilchcombe, also in attendance, challenging them to become part of the solution.

Wilcombe says abuse is plaguing the country and everyone must play a part in overcoming this menace.
