Building the Next Generation in STEM

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Some Ministry of Works employees have been giving back, by lending their talents to an interactive summer camp here in the capital.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Over the past few months, we’ve been telling you how the Ministry of Works and Utilities has been hard at work making some necessary improvements across the country. Hear how some of those employees that have been giving back in a different way by lending their talents to an interactive summer camp here in the capital.

Engineers play an important part in creating many things we get to enjoy. For the past two weeks some engineers employed at the Ministry of Works have been taking the time to engage with youngsters interested in future careers in the industry.

We spoke to Geotechnical and Civil engineer at the Ministry of Works, Albrion Symonette Jr, one of the instructors at The Bahamas Engineering and Technology Advancement Camp.

He says the BETA camp has been around for the past ten years with a goal to expose Bahamian youth to opportunities in STEM careers, whether it be science technology engineering or math.

And the efforts have not been in vain. Symonette says some of the camp’s past participants have now found careers in the industry.
