CANADA – The Canadian government looking to end an unprecedented rail stoppage, announcing it would ask the country’s industrial relations board to issue a back-to-work order that could come in a few days.

Railroad workers protested on Thursday.

During a press conference, Labour Minister Steven Mackinnon announced his plans to refer the situation to the board for compulsory arbitration.

Canada’s leading two railroads initiated a lockout affecting over 9,000 unionized workers on Thursday, leading to an unprecedented halt in rail operations.

This could potentially inflict billions of dollars in economic damage and disrupt North American supply chains.
