NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal has temporarily stopped the double murder trial of Travon Stevens from beginning, pending his challenge to the trial judge’s refusal to step down from the case.

Stevens is accused of fatally shooting his former girlfriend Alicia Sawyer and her eight-year-old daughter at their Nassau Village home on September 28, 2020.

Stevens’ trial was scheduled to begin before Justice Franklyn Williams KC on May 5.

However, Stevens feels that he won’t get a fair trial if Williams presides over his trial because he alleges that judge has already formed an opinion about his guilt.

The appeal is set to be heard on July 22.
