GRAND CAY, BAHAMAS – For more than two weeks, residents on Grand Cay, Abaco have been living without reliable power, and for some, the prolonged outage is now more than an inconvenience, it’s taking an emotional and financial toll.

Resident Craig Cephas tells us that the power was restored early Tuesday morning, after being out for about a week.

We first reported on August 12th that electricity had returned, but Cephas says the relief was short-lived.

By five o’clock the following morning, he says the lights were out again and residents have been without power since.

Without reliable power, even the most basic comforts become a struggle.

Cephas says his own family has been forced to find solutions just to get by.

He also says his mother’s generator exploded after being overworked, forcing the family to order another one, which only raises more questions according to him.

“They just order another generator couple days ago and that generator gonna be here in the next couple days. And I mean, they just order it. So you could tell me the government don’t have the resources to get a generator here right away?”

The frustration also extends to the energy minister, who Cephas says has failed to provide the leadership residents need.

However he’s not alone, because as for another Grand Cay resident, the ongoing blackouts have become too much to bear, so much so that she says she is now afraid to even return home.
