NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As public school students head back to the classroom on August 29th, The Bahamas Union of Teachers says a week before the official opening it will hold a meeting to decide whether members will strike at the beginning of the school year.

This comes following weeks of unsuccessful negotiations with the government.

Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin addressing the issue.

“I think all Bahamians should be concerned if school reopening is being affected. School needs to reopen,” Hanna-Martin says.

As for COVID-19 protocols, the education minister says the plan is for a return to face-to-face learning.

“The COVID regulations allow now for full face-to-face – 100 percent – and we would like to get all of our children in the classroom,” she explains.”
