Național Security Minister: These Are People Who Don’t Know How to Resolve Conflicts

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – National Security Minister Wayne Munroe has acknowledged the troubling increase in domestic and interpersonal violence emphasizing that many violent acts are rooted in a lack of conflict resolution skills.

His remarks come in the wake of three separate incidents in which four men were killed, stemming from family disputes.

He highlights the most controversial the double killing of two brothers-in-law on October 29th.

“Do you think it’s right to run up and fire 70 shots to try to kill one man and to kill one man?, ” he asked.

“That’s not somebody who’s been brought up properly. Um, do you think as you can see in the videos that circulate, you walk up on your sister’s husband and chop him or you get in a row? So you take a pipe and hit strike someone in the head three, four times. That’s a failure, one, to control your emotions, and two, it’s also a failure to know how you resolve disputes.”

Munore pointed out that these violent acts are often committed by individuals between the ages of 18 and 35.

The national security minister says it will take a hoListic approach to address.

“It’s not gonna be done only by the police, only by the government,” Munroe said.

“Because you’re addressing attitudes in human beings who are adults. So that requires the involvement of the entire society. Um, the long term approaches are to make places like this school, a high school safe haven for these children and young people, so that they’re not recruited to gangs in these places, and give them the background as to how you properly resolve your conflicts.”
