NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A tax on sugar and excess salt imported into the country may be on the way, following an announcement from the Minister of Health and Wellness. But how would that impact you?

Proposed legislation to impose taxes on sugar and excess salt is in an effort to create a healthier Bahamas, according to Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Michael Darville.

So far, the views of Bahamians have been mixed.

Judy Forbes says she believes it is a good idea, but Bahamians must do their part to take their health more serious.

However, Kenneth Smith says he disagrees, and although the tax is in an effort to promote healthier lifestyles, he suggests residents simply use alternative options.
