NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who was shot by police after he allegedly disarmed a policewoman is behind bars facing multiple charges.

Prosecutors allege that 29-year-old Kenneth Sweeting attempted to murder Inspector Kimberley Smith-Rolle after he grabbed her service pistol during a struggle on January 18.

Sweeting is also accused of aggravated assault of the inspector.

Prosecutors further allege that Sweeting had the firearm with the intent to endanger the life of PC 4476 Jayson McCardy.

The charges stem from a police chase that ended at the intersection of  Pebbles and Jumbey Drive.

Sweeting wasn’t required ti enter pleas to the charges when he stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.

Bail was denied and he’s back in court on April 3 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
