NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man accused of a deadly crash that killed five of his passengers has been charged.

Nineteen-year-old Marcus thacker stood before acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans with shackles on his feet, and his right arm in a cast and sling, to face five counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Prosecutors say Thacker crashed into a tree while driving a rental car west along Shirley Street, resulting in the deaths of Shantia Webb, Diamond Stubbs, Beatrice Brown, Evalena Johnson and Keno Gordon.

Thacker was not required to enter pleas to the charges, and the matter was adjourned to October 22 for the presentation of voluntary bill of indictment papers to fastrack the case to the supreme court.

Bail was set at $30,000. Thacker is required to report to police on Mondays before 9 pm, wear an ankle bracelet, and keep a daily curfew of 10pm to 6am.

He also has to surrender his passport to the court.
