Mass Burial In Congo’s Goma As Morgues Overflow After Fighting

GOMA, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – Red Cross and Civil Protection teams buried 120 decomposing bodies in Goma on Monday, easing pressure on jam-packed morgues one week after M23 rebels seized eastern Congo’s largest city.

Under rebel watch, workers in protective gear lowered body bags into fresh graves.

Congo’s health ministry reports 773 people killed and 2,800 wounded in and around Goma.

The conflict has displaced around half a million people, while the Congolese government has called for sanctions against Rwanda over its alleged support of M23.
