Roads, Immigration, and Safety Key Issues For Golden Isles Residents

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Poor roads, security, and environmental issues are just some of the concerns expressed by Golden Isles residents ahead of the upcoming by-election. Our Joshua Williams visited the community Friday, where he spoke with residents.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Golden Isles residents are one month away from making an important decision – who will be their next member of Parliament?

For now, they’re without representation after the passing of former MP Vaughn Miller, who was laid to rest Friday, October 24th, 2025 at Bahamas Faith Ministries.

Vying for the seat is Progressive Liberal Party Senator Darren Pickstock, Brian Brown, representing the Free National Movement, and Brian Rolle for the Coalition of Independents.

All three have hit the ground campaigning in those communities, but what do residents actually want?

One breakfast stall owner in the Bacardi Road area says he wants to see more opportunities for small business owners.

“It could be bigger expansion… If we had a building which is like… a restaurant, that would be great. This is a good thing for many ladies within our community within The Bahamas, if they ain’t even working…”

The constituency has over 7,000 registered voters, making it one of the largest constituencies.

However, last general election only 66% of those voters turned out.

Residents also express concerns over infrastructural upgrades, especially damaged roads and the presence of shantytowns nearby.

“If you look over there you see a lot of bushes that heads into the housing community, if you got a fire right there all of their houses will be burnt to the ground.”

In addition to CCTV and lighting, Adelaide’s position near the coast makes the community vulnerable to storm surges.

“In the event of a natural disaster there [is] no emergency plan to get out, and so I think that first and foremost we have a bridge road right across the street here that could be moved out to the front.”

“Feed the poor people, pay attention to the old people and the kids within our community who are fatherless, put something in perspective for them.

Linc Scavella-Ferguson – Resident

“I don’t believe in tribalism, that’s the problem in this nation today, this tribalism…so I want the candidate to speak with me, I would ask the [questions], say some things if I like him [or if] I would support him.”
