U.S. Ambassador: “When The Bahamas Needed Us We Were There, We Will Always Be There”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Just a day after the U.S. announced a pause on the processing of immigrant visas for citizens in 75 countries including The Bahamas, U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas Herschel Walker says the United States is still committed to supporting The Bahamas as it’s done for years.

The news, raising more questions and while Walker didn’t speak on the matter specifically, he told attandenees at The Bahamas Business Outlook, the U.S. continues to value our nation as a neighbor and friend.

On Wednesday, the U.S. State Department advised it will suspend the processing of immigrant visas for citizens of 75 countries including The Bahamas, a move that’s raised a lot of concerns.

Walker didn’t address the visa pause directly, but says they’ll continue to support us, as they’ve done before in our darkest hours.

“When the Bahamas needed us, we were there and we always will be there when hurricane Melissa hit the US. Came with money for shelter, water sanitation we help with storm tracking and evacuation.”

Ambassador Walker says they’re also still committed to long term investments – helping Bahamians to thrive, focusing on employment and infrastructure.

“For, example of the US export import bank committed to $276 million and financing over the last past two years to help provide energy for economic growth in the Bahamas. Starlink stepped up to deliver affordable Internet to the family islands. I’m happy to see so many Bahemians employed by top-tier American companies like high Hyatt city bank and FedEx and I have a few companies in mind. I’d like to bring here as well.”

“We can move the Bahamas from a regional sea base tour place to a global space space tourism leader.”

And despite the good work and relationships, the ambassador says there are still pressing issues that need to be tackled.

“Get serious about tackling common threats, such as drug trafficking, illegal immigration, cyber security, and supply chain problems”
