NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter has avoided jail time.

Justice Franklyn Williams KC sentenced 21-year-old Kenneth Hanna to three years probation for the fatal stabbing of Antin McPhee on December 18, 2021.

Originally charged with murder, hanna pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter during his trial.

According to the evidence, a 17-year-old Hanna was at Arawak Cay when he encountered the victim, who was also 17.

McPhee and his friends allegedly started a fight with Hanna and pulled a knife.

Justice Williams considered Hanna’s early guilty plea and his lack of convictions. While on bail awaiting sentencing, Hanna saved a family from a burning house.

While acknowledging the irreversible loss of life, Justice Williams said he took into account Hanna’s age and maturity level at the time of the offense and his demonstrated capacity for reform.
