UNITED STATES – Prince Strachan and the Mountaineers fell to the Arizona Wildcats in another Big 12 shootout.

The six-foot-five wide receiver from Grand Bahama had what was easily the best game of his career, grabbing five receptions for 121 yards. He and the offense scored 31 points, but West Virginia gave up 52 to Arizona for its third straight loss.

Strachan showed off his ability to go over the top, hauling in 36-yard and 40-yard catches for the Mountaineers. However, he has yet to find the end zone this season.

Quarterback Michael Hawkins threw for 228 yards, completing 11 of 28 passes. But he did most of his damage on the ground, rushing for 141 yards.

Hawkins also left 14 points on the field, fumbling on the team’s second drive and having the ball returned for a touchdown. He fumbled again at the end of the first half on the two-yard line, when the Mountaineers appeared poised to score.

West Virginia’s defense did not do him any favors. Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita completed 16 of 23 passes for 341 yards, even with his top three receivers out.

Wide receiver number four, Isaiah Mizell, made West Virginia’s defenders look as though they were running through mud. He finished with 183 yards and two touchdowns on just six catches.

Strachan appears fully integrated into West Virginia’s offense and is poised for the breakout season we’ve been waiting four years for. But for West Virginia to have a chance at a bowl game, the team will have to find a way to stop its opponents.

Three games into conference play, the Mountaineers have yet to show they can do that.

Regatta

We have a few more updates from the mini regatta in Long Island. As previously reported, only the C and E classes, the two smallest boat divisions, are racing in the shallow waters of Clarence Town Harbour.

Sassy Sue won C-class Series One, followed by Rudy Rae, with Joker in third.

In E-class Series Two, Lady Annamarie took the win, followed by Seven Dees, with Ma Doreen in third.

Sassy Sue also won the second C-class race, with Rudy Rae finishing second again and Sacrifice taking third.

The 15 boats across the two divisions had three more races today: two E-class races and one C-class race.

And, of course, the day ended with festivities and a concert.

If you want to keep up with all the updates, head to the Long Island Sailing Club’s Facebook page, where you can find results, photos, interviews and even a livestream.
