Residents Left Wanting More After King Charles III’s Motorcade Quickly Passes By

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Some residents along Bacardi Road and Coral Harbour say they wished King Charles III’s motorcade had slowed down so they could better experience his visit, while others hope the royal visit will lead to positive developments for The Bahamas.

NASSAU , BAHAMAS –

Dorothy Simon – Resident

“I wouldn’t call it so exciting because he passed so fast, you know? Now, if they had just cruised through so we could wave and welcome him, we’d have felt much better. You know what I mean?”

And that was the general consensus from residents of the Bacardi Road area I spoke with.

The Coral Harbour and Bacardi Road communities were on His Majesty King Charles III’s route to and from the Coral Harbour Defence Force Base before he moved on to Bonefish Pond.

His Majesty was driven in a black BMW with his windows down, as part of a heavily guarded convoy. Several outriders and an ambulance were also following him.

But despite the excitement of the historic visit, some residents say they wished the King had slowed down just a little longer.

Faith Gardener – Resident

“I would hope that he would have at least rolled down his window while he was passing so he could have waved, you know, at least waved to the Bahamian people so we could at least feel his presence. But the vehicle was moving so fast, we weren’t able to see him. But it’s a good experience to know that he was here in The Bahamas, and we welcome him.”

But for this resident, the visit was about more than just catching a glimpse of the King. He believes the monarch should have been taken through some of the communities that need the most attention.

“He ride through. Certain parts of the island are very, very, very poorly damaged, and they supposed to carry him through one or two of them areas, let him see, like, okay, we need these things to be done. You see what I’m saying? Or he could tell them, ‘Y’all do these things.’ You see what I’m saying?”

And while some were left wanting more from the royal experience, others are hopeful the visit will bring something positive.

Carl Fisher says he’s looking forward to what could come next.

Carl Fisher – Resident

“Seeing the state the country in right now, so, you know, he can come back with some more nice plans, and we can invest inside his country. You see? So you’re hopeful about what could come from this visit? Yeah, man, I’m very hopeful about it, man, because I know some great things will come out of it.”
