NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The death of a seven-year-old girl on a swing set is being investigated by police, following a freak accident, Thursday evening.

Police say the child was swinging on a swing set on Sutton Street, off Kemp Road when the swing set collapsed, shortly after 7pm. She was transported to hospital via ambulance where she succumbed to her injuries.

On Friday, Chairman of the Public Parks and Public Beaches Authority, McKell Bonaby said the unfortunate incident occurred on private property. He adds that the authority is working to help other institutions when it comes to the safety of children.

In a statement released by the Archdiocese of Nassau Friday afternoon, the Office of the Archbishop said it is, “deeply saddened to learn of the unfortunate incident resulting in the death of a minor on the grounds of St. Bede’s Church.”

“Every life has dignity. Every life is precious,” the statement continues.

The Archdiocese of Nassau offered prayers and condolences to the family of the deceased and the entire community.
