HOA Speaker Confident About First Year

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With the first anniversary of the Progressive Liberal Party’s election win last September just days away we continue to highlighting some of the highs and lows of the administration. One of the highs was the number of women appointed to the cabinet and parliamentary posts. In this edition, we will focus on house speaker Patricia Deveaux.

When the Progressive Liberal Party won the government on September 16, newly minted Prime Minister Philip Davis wasted no time appointing women to top posts in his administration after every woman on the PLP’s ticket won their seats.

One of those women was Patricia Deveaux, who is the member of parliament for Bamboo Town, who would become the speaker of the House of Assembly on October 6th, 2021.

Our News had the opportunity to sit down with Deveaux who shared her thoughts about the number of women appointed under the Davis administration. She says over the past year, she’s enjoyed sitting in the seat. Deveaux also admitting there have been some hiccups along the way.

And though it’s still early, the speaker says she is still thinking about whether or not she will run again in the next election.
