NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Turks and Caicos Islands receiving  the brunt of Hurricane Fiona’s fury today. Grand Turks and the Cays have already experienced torrential rains and an increase in the wind. Our Sasha Lightbourne spoke briefly with a senior government official earlier today about conditions there.

Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructural Development in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Akierra Missick speaking to Our News earlier today. 

The island went under lockdown, Saturday evening, as the threat of Hurricane Fiona became imminent. 

Missick, whose portfolio includes the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies or DDME, explains conditions on Grand Turk, saying there was rough weather as they face the brunt of the storm.

Residents also experienced island-wide power loss. Missick admonished Bahamians and locals to keep their guards up and seek safe shelter.
