NASSAU, BAHAMAS – “More training” is needed for tour operators in The Bahamas, according to Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper, following a recent fatal shark attack off New Providence.

Cooper, who also serves as Minister of Tourism, says when it comes to shark attacks in The Bahamas “more can be done”.

This comes after the September 6th fatal shark attack that took the life of tourist Caroline Diplacido, a 58-year-old mother of three.

It has prompted renewed discussions about how tour operators manage shark safety practices.

Cooper echoed sentiments shared by dive expert Andre Musgrove, who stressed the importance of avoiding recently or frequently chummed waters that sharks may link to feedings.
