NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority have been making headlines as it relates to the management and state of the city of Freeport.

One business leader in the community of Grand Bahama is speaking out and says he is disappointed in the entire ordeal.

Well known leader in the Grand Bahama business community Darren Cooper expressed his thoughts on the recent back and forth between government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

Cooper was a part of a major protest against the Port Authority in Grand Bahama a little over a year ago, but he says this recent action by government is disappointing.

Cooper calling it an “attack” on the Port Authority and says government should stop.

Now, he agrees that some parts of the Hawksbill Creek Agreement should be brought up to date but admits that there are many benefits in that agreement for licensees like himself.

The community leader also making it clear that he does not agree with some who say that government should take ownership of the city of Freeport.

Cooper sharing that he spoke with some investors personally who say they’ve met all the requirements of the GBPA for potential projects but have been waiting on government’s approval for years.
