NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Carnival Cruise Lines gifting $300 million worth of projects to mark its 50th birthday today.

Berthony McDermott attended a special celebration, where the company’s president announced investments for Grand Bahama and San Salvador.

As Carnival Cruise line celebrates 50 years, President Christine Duffy announcing a $200 million project for Grand Bahama and a $100 million enhancements for Half Moon Cay in San Salvador.

Combined, the projects are expected to provide 1000 jobs.

She said the goal is to bring more Carnival ships and passengers to The Bahamas, which will result in more job opportunities.

When asked for a timeline on the project, Tourism Minister Chester Cooper revealed government is in the advanced stages of approvals.

The announcement comes as the Grand Bahamian economy is still reeling from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and hurricane Dorian which ravaged that northern island.

She said plans are also underway to build a pier at Half Moon Cay which would allow for large vessels.

Carnival has a long history with The Bahamas which has been one of its ports of call since it began operations 50 years ago.

Carnival has five ports of call in The Bahamas and according to Duffy, The Bahamas is one of the most popular destinations among guests.

Duffy also announced a $50,000 donation to the LJM Maritime Academy.
