GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – After years of setbacks, broken deals, and economic stagnation, Grand Bahama may finally be on the rebound.

On Thursday afternoon, the government and Concord Wilshire signed a Heads of Agreement to transform the aging Grand Lucayan Resort into a world-class destination.

Following the signing, a small section of the property was demolished, bricks crashing to the ground as an excavator dug in, a symbolic first step in what’s expected to be a multi-million-dollar transformation.

Officials say the redevelopment will create hundreds of jobs and revive the struggling tourism sector.

And for residents long tired of watching the resort sit, the sight of real movement stirred real emotion.

Owner of H Forbes Charter, Headley Forbes, expressed his excitement.

Chairman of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Sarah St. George, applauded the government for its efforts.
