NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Paddles are in the water, and the dragon boats are racing toward the shore as competitors prepare to go head-to-head with local and international teams in under a month. Join our Jean Joseph as he looks closer at the preparation for The Bahamas Dragon Boat Festival.

Teams are preparing to compete in the Inaugural Bahamas Dragon Boat Festival, August 20th and 21st at Goodman’s Bay and training is in full swing several days a week on Junkanoo Beach.

Nathaniel Farrington, National Coach for The Bahamas Chinese Dragon Boat Association, is making sure that all teams put on their best showing on race day.

Many teams are gearing up for the showdown, including the REV Dragon Warriors and the Paradise Dragons.

Paradise Dragons Omala Ablack-Hudson says the experience is amazing despite this being her first time doing an activity this physical on the water. Hudson says the Paradise Dragons have their eyes on the prize.

Notwithstanding all the health and fitness impacts, the dragon boat paddling is a great recreational activity that engages your total body and fosters teamwork. Farrington encourages teams to sign up and not get left on the shore.
