Outbreak of Diarrhea-causing Parasite Linked to 4 More States

UNITED STATES – Federal health officials have expanded the United State’s largest cyclo-spora outbreak to four more states.

The CDC now says Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania have been added to the investigation, which was already underway in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

The outbreak linked to shredded lettuce served at Taco Bell has now sickened 1,947 people, with at least 98 hospitalizations.

No deaths have been reported.

The FDA continues to investigate shredded lettuce from Taylor Farms as the likely source.

The company recently recalled iceberg lettuce grown in Central Mexico.

Nationwide, the CDC has confirmed more than 4,100 cyclo-spora cases across 41 states since May, with thousands more under investigation as officials continue to trace the source.
