NASSAU, BAHAMAS – For four decades, Commonwealth Brewery Limited (CBL) has been brewing more than some of the country’s favorite beverages, helping to build the Bahamian economy.

Founded through a partnership between Heineken and the Associated Bahamas Distillers and Brewers, the brewery’s story began in the mid-1980s, with the first locally brewed bottles of Heineken and Guinness rolling off the production line in 1987.

Today, CBL contributes about one percent of the nation’s GDP, employs more than 350 Bahamians directly, and supports hundreds more through its network of suppliers and partners.

For Chairman Julian Francis, brewing in The Bahamas has always been about putting Bahamians first.

Managing Director Etienne Bachellier says he was immediately struck by the brewery’s strong local foundation and its vision for continued growth.

Meanwhile, Senior Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager Arnette Ingraham says this anniversary is as much about The Bahamas as it is about the company.

While 40 years is certainly worth celebrating, company leaders say they’re already looking ahead to the next chapter.
