Storm Surge Slams NP’s West Coast

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Tropical Storm Nicole may not have made a direct hit on New Providence, but she certainly made an impact, many of the capital’s coastal roads were forced to close today after they proved dangerous for motorists.

Rough seas and debris from the storm surge from TS Nicole resulted in road closures in New Providence today.

Starting early this morning, videos of the impact of the storm surge from Nicole came flooding in.

Leading Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings urged residents to avoid the capital’s coastal roads.

Maverick Major was one of those residents wading through floodwaters. He explained why he and his loved ones chose to leave their home, Wednesday morning.

West Bay Street was also a wet mess prompting authorities to close portions of the roadway, including the areas between:

-Ferguson Road and Saunders Beach

-Saunders Beach and Seaview Drive

-the Sandyport entrance all the way to Blake Road

-Blake Road and Gambier (Fernander Road) and,

-Arawak Cay to the Western Esplanade
