PM: Additional Manpower Not Needed in Haiti

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A one-day mission to Haiti sanctioned by CARICOM bringing the Caribbean body one step closer to finding ways to address the ongoing challenges in Haiti.

Prime Minister Philip Davis met the delegation at Lynden Pindling International Airport Monday night, deeming the mission a success.

PM Davis says officials identified the common denominator to address the challenges that plague Haiti.

Although the PM, didn’t reveal what those are but he says the way forward does not call for outside manpower.

The mission followed CARICOM’s recent meeting in The Bahamas which focused on the ongoing turmoil in Haiti.

The mission was headed by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and included Immigration Minister Keith Bell, National Security Minister Wayne Munroe, and other CARICOM officials.

The prime minister says The Bahamas will assist in empowering local law enforcement there.

But how will this be funded? Davis says CARICOM cannot afford the resources needed to address the ongoing issues in Haiti.

For that he says they will need the help of international partners.
