Regional Swimmers Perform Well At CARIFTA

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Outside of The Bahamas winning it’s sixth consecutive title, there were some strong performances from swimmers throughout the region.

Outside of The Bahamas winning it’s sixth consecutive title, there were some strong performances from swimmers throughout the region. 

Jillian Crooks from the Cayman Islands is one of the most decorated female swimmers in the region with it being her last CARIFTA Aquatics Championships, she put on a show and did not disappoint taking home several medals along the way.

Jillian’s fellow countrywoman, Harper Barrowman also took home some hardware.

Jamaican Kia Alert won several gold medals. She spoke to us about winning as well as turning her country into a swim nation.

Antoine Destang from St. Lucia won several gold medals as well. He spoke specifically about his 50m fly race.

World Relays

BAAA’s President Drumeco Archer talks about how excited he is for The Bahamas’ World Relays Pre-game Show. 

Dubbed the showdown in paradise, the event will run on the same days as the relays, May 4th and 5th, showcasing high-school aged athletes from around the country, the Caribbean and the United States. 

Basketball

Deandre Ayton is finishing up his season strong. 

The big fella from New Providence stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 34 points, 13, rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals as his Portland Trailblazer beat the Washington Wizards 108-102.

Klay Thompson scored 16 points as his Golden State Warriors lost to the Dallas Mavericks.

And Eric Gordon came off the bench to score 4 points in 17 minutes as his Phoenix Suns beat the Dallas Mavericks 97-87.
