NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The discussion over a minimum wage increase is back on the table in the what’s being called “livable wage.”
It’s defined as income that is high enough to maintain a normal standard of living.
Labour and Public Service Minister Pia Glover-Rolle admits it’s now a global discussion.
There are supporting data and statistics showing justifiable increases.
It’s evidence the minister and her team cannot ignore.
But union leaders like Trade Union Congress President Obie Ferguson, are increasingly vocal for another minimum wage increase despite the 2022 raise from $210 to $260 week.
And while the Davis administration is credited with the first wage increase in seven years, the labour minister can’t say for sure if or when another increase will come.
