Former Marine Awaiting Trial After Pleading Not Guilty to Gun Trafficking Charges

UNITED SATTES – A former Marine Mechanic is awaiting trial in Florida after pleading not guilty to gun trafficking charges last week.

U.S federal prosecutors allege that 36-year-old Ray Strachan intended to smuggle nine guns and 15,000 rounds of ammunition from Florida to The Bahamas by boat on April 18th, 2026.

Officers from the Florida Highway Patrol allegedly thwarted the smuggling plot when they seized the contraband following a traffic stop in Hallandale Beach, Florida as Strachan headed to a marina by two other men.

Strachan allegedly told the officers that he was a Royal Bahanas Defence Force Marine Officer and that he and his cousin Trevor Brown had been hired by Marvin Clarke to bring two boats from Florida to The Bahamas.

Law enforcement also allegedly recovered photos and videos of the seized guns and ammunition from Strachan’s phone.

Prosecutors did not pursue charges against Brown, and Clarke was sentenced to 86 days in prison after pleading no contest to possession of an altered firearm.

Strachan was dismissed from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force following his arrest for being away without leave.
