The 26-year-old center is now officially a free agent after finalizing a contract buyout with the Portland Trail Blazers, signaling the start of a new chapter in his NBA journey.

The former No. 1 overall pick averaged 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds in 40 starts last season, despite missing time with a calf injury. Amid Portland’s ongoing rebuild, Ayton struggled to find consistency in the lineup, and with the team selecting centers in back-to-back drafts, he found himself on the outside looking in.

Still, Ayton’s value remains strong, he is one of only four players in the league to average at least 10 points and 10 rebounds per season over the last seven years. A cornerstone of the Phoenix Suns’ 2021 NBA Finals run, Ayton was traded to the Trail Blazers in 2023.
