ARGENTINA – Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell is hitting out at locals who he says are using immigration challenges to stir up a frenzy.

Mitchell spoke to Our News from Argentina where he, along with the prime minister, is attending the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States Meeting.

At the regional event, the prime minister addressed the crisis in Haiti, which is impacting The Bahamas and neighboring countries.

On Sunday, nearly 400 Haitian migrants were apprehended in what the United States is calling one of the largest smuggling operations in the region.

In recent days, the topic of migration took center stage after a group of protestors led by Coalition of Independence Leader Lincoln Bain gathered outside the Office of the Prime Minister, decrying government’s handling of the issue.

The Free National Movement has also gone on record saying government is dragging its feet on addressing related issues.

Mitchell says the problem can be effectively managed.
