Caribbean Emergency Management Holds Presser

BARBADOS – The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency hosted a press conference on Friday to bring its regional partners up to date with ongoing efforts in disaster readiness, particularly as the Atlantic Hurricane Season is now underway.

Executive Director of CDEMA Elizabeth Riley noting that just a few months ago, CDEMA council members approved a new five-year strategic plan for disaster readiness.

Riley noting training is continuous for CDEMA and its member states.  She says recovery is one of the newer areas for the technical portfolio that the coordinating unit is now ramping up.

And just over a year ago, a special partnership was forged between CDEMA and global support and development. She says she is pleased to share that the region is being supported with assistance in strengthening its disaster readiness.

The partnership will be solidified at the end of this month with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in St. Lucia.
