Row Erupts Over Victimization

The argument began after Free National Movement (FNM) leader Michael Pintard questioned why people in the public service were being redeployed, seemingly because of their political beliefs

However, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service Fred Mitchell defended the move as standard, following a change in government.

However, Mitchell’s explanation didn’t sit well with East Grand Bahama Member Parliament (MP) Kwasi Thompson, who said Mitchell’s explanation could be used as an excuse for getting rid of people because of their party affiliation.

In response, Mitchell accused the former FNM administrations of rampant victimization of Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) supporters.

He even went as far as saying it was perfected under the former administration, noting that PLP supporters were terrified under the former government.

Pintard, however, called it laughable.

Mitchell pointed to several failed anti-corruption lawsuits pursued by the Minnis administration against former PLP politicians.

Pintard argued that the new leadership of the FNM, should not be judged by the actions taken under former leader Dr. Hubert Minnis.
