ABACO, BAHAMAS – One week after a distressed vessel in waters off South Abaco spilled corrosive chemicals into the Atlantic Ocean, clean-up efforts are still ongoing.

There was no oil or fuel leakage from the MV Onego Traveller, according to John Pinder, member of parliament for Central and South Abaco, who says fuel tanks on the vessel were capped off.

Clean-up efforts are ongoing, and Pinder says he’s been advised by the technical team that as long as the product doesn’t touch the shoreline, there will be no long-term environmental impact.

The Central and South Abaco MP says he will continue to monitor the process to ensure that the situation is mitigated in the shortest time possible.
