NASSAU, BAHAMAS – We’re all excited for The Bahamas’ Golden Jubilee Independence celebrations. As we get closer to July 10th, there is a wave of new decorations and merchandise coming out every day.

The question is, where does it all go when the party is over?

While there are some recycling options in The Bahamas, most of our trash in New Providence is covered in the New Providence Ecology Park, formerly known as the City Dump.

But just because it’s out of sight, doesn’t mean it disappears.

So, what are we supposed to do if we can’t recycle, and shouldn’t throw our celebrations away?

Well, as we know, Independence celebrations roll around every year.

Flags can be kept, themed shirts can be re-worn next year, Independence party decorations can be saved for future patriotic events, and you’ll probably want to save and collect the 50th Independence commemorative items for souvenirs.

If nothing else, when participating in the wonderful parties sure to come over the coming days, make sure you don’t leave anything behind.

If you’re planning beach festivities, have a garbage collection plan.

Bring your own garbage if need be to make sure our beaches and ocean life are just as beautiful for our 100th Independence Anniversary as they are today.
